Top Ten Learn To Skate Tips


  1. Be on time! It typically takes 30-45 minutes to get all of your skating gear on and be ready to hit the ice. Do not miss a minute of your class and all the fun!!!
  2. Dress properly for skating. Wear clothing that is easy to move around in.
  3. Dress in warm clothing, (layering is good) and be sure to wear gloves.
  4. If you use rental skates, be sure to wear a thin sock and start with a skate that is a size smaller than your shoe.
  5. Visit the Ice & Golf Center's Pro-Shop if you have any equipment questions or need advice.
  6. Practice as much as possible. Take advantage of your discount card for public sessions. You are not going to improve without practice.
  7. If you feel that you have been incorrectly placed, either in a class that is too hard or too easy, let your teacher know.
  8. Remember your teacher's name and where your class is on the ice. Teachers will have name tags and your lesson area will be marked.
